WSOP Issues Major Rule Change to Electronic Device Use For Paradise Series

Jonathan Tamayo
Jonathan Tamayo

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise series is underway, and poker players attending should be aware of a rule change that will impact the use of electronic devices at the table.

Jonathan Tamayo won the WSOP Main Event for $10 million this past summer in Las Vegas. Controversy surrounded the victory after poker fans noticed his rail, which included poker pros Joe McKeehen and Dominik Nitsche, had a laptop open with apparent real-time assistance (RTA) software visible.

Tamayo would occasionally converse with his rail during the final table, and that led some to question if he had an unfair advantage. But no one has presented any evidence to prove he broke any rules or won the tournament because of an edge gained from his rail. Still, the WSOP did not have a rule in place to prevent potential controversies such as this from arising. They do now, however.

There are a few other additional new rules for the series, including banning electronic devices at the table altogether when a tournament is down to three tables. Players are also not permitted to place their cell phones or any electronic devices on the table or table rail during play.

High Rollers Battle For Supremacy Once Again on Day 1 of the $100,000 Triton Main Event

WSOP bracelet Triton trophy
WSOP bracelet Triton trophy

A World Series of Poker bracelet is the pinnacle of a poker player’s career. A Triton Series trophy is the ambition of every high roller playing at the game’s biggest stakes. One player will get both of them in a few days, and the journey begins today on Day 1 of the $100,000 Triton Main Event at the 2024 WSOP Paradise.

The lights have just dimmed on the Triton main stage after Alejandro Lococo’s victory in the Triton Million yesterday. Now some of poker’s biggest names get another shot to chase glory and a massive prize pool when action gets underway at noon local time inside the Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas.

Players begin the tournament with a 250,000 starting stack. The action on Day 1 consists of ten 50-minute levels, with a 15-minute break after every two levels. Late registration is open until the start of Day 2 tomorrow, with unlimited reentries allowed during the registration period.

This is the first year that Triton has partnered with the WSOP, but last year’s WSOP Paradise featured a similar $100,000 Ultra High Roller event. Masashi Oya of Japan emerged victorious over a field of 111 players, defeating Jason Koon heads-up to win $2,940,000. Leon Sturm, Nick Schulman, and Ben Heath were among the players to make the final table.
